A study of the mental health conditions experienced by adults on the spectrum

This article is from my PhD research. The whole project involved 68 people with autism, intellectual disability, or both and I did interviews with autistic adults, mental health screening assessments and talked to support providers. This project is specifically about the mental health screening assessments and has a very ‘psychiatric’ focus. We found that autistic adults in New Zealand had high rates of depression, anxiety and that those who autism plus an intellectual disability also have major problems with attention, concentration and hyperactivity.
