Kestrel Consulting Limited is owned and operated by Dr. Martyn Matthews.
I’m originally from Barnsley which is in northern England, halfway between Sheffield and Leeds as you head up the M1 motorway. I’ve lived in New Zealand since 2001, so I’ve now spent more of my working life in NZ than the UK. I currently live in Wellington, but Dunedin is my NZ adopted home town.
I did my PhD with the Department of Psychological Medicine at Otago University where I looked at the mental health of adults on the autism spectrum, both with and without intellectual disabilities. You can find a copy of my PhD here: https://ourarchive.otago.ac.nz/handle/10523/6871.
Kestrel Consulting was established in May 2018 after I decided to strike out on my own after 10 years at IDEA Services/IHC where I’d set up and managed the national autism services and then been national manager for specialist services and national clinical leader. You may be wondering what the Kestrel is all about…It’s a reference to where I come from and to a great book and film set in Barnsley and filmed at a school where my mum was a teacher.
